University of Mumbai


University of Mumbai is amongst the first three Universities in India. It was established in the year 1857 with the name of "University of Bombay”. The name was changed to its current name following the retitle of its birth city “Bombay” to “Mumbai”.



In over 150 years of its functioning attests to its various achievements as the intellectual and moral powerhouse of the society. It has emerged in the list of top ranking and recognised universities at national level as well as internationally. It now holds one of the Highest Ratings, “A” Grade and a Five Star Status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC).

Being a Central University, it has spread the branches with broadly 691 affiliated colleges and covering 56 profound University Departments, Moreover it has intellectually added 2 honourable Post-Graduate Centres. In the last five years its associate’s professors have received 18 National/International awards and there has been an increase of 156% in the number of research papers published in International Journals.

Owing to the increase in number of students, The University has amplified its number of campuses in 2 different part of Mumbai covering over area of 14 acres and 243 acres at Fort and Kalina respectively. The University also hold Sub-Campuses/Centres at Ratnagiri, Thane and Kalyan expanding over 32 acres in total.
